Every Camera lens manufacturers use general acronyms, abbreviations and terminology to best identify lens characteristics and its overall performance. At times they are confusing and as an amateur photographer you would have a daunting task to choose from.
I’ve listed below few lens brands with their native abbreviations and a short description. Hope this helps.

Hi
This is a really useful for every one, Thanks for the info
Thanks Mr. Guru Anna,
Thanks Prashanth.
Quite informative.. I keep looking out for the same all over the place when I buy lenses. Appreciate you have listed both Canon and Nikon along with 3rd party lenses. On a different note did you personally buy any lens during the Nikon lens rebate you mentioned sometime back.
Thanks for the kind words. Yes I did buy the 24-120mm f/4 & the 85mm f/1.8, it was a good deal.
I'm a beginer in photography. I just ordered myself a lens from Amazon…seriously I never intially understood the different letters assigned with the lens. I was looking for a Nikon 50mm, which my friends told me was a great lens. I was searching in Amazon and found 4 different version of the same. That's when I googled across the different abbreviations and found your site explaining these term. Thanks in advance. I'm interested to join in your workshops, how to contact you.
Nikon 50mm are great lens. I do understand when you say there are 4 different version of the same. Both the new 50mm AF-S 1.4G & 50mm AF-S 1.8G are great and inexpensive lens for FX camera. You are most welcome to join the group, you can contact me via email:admin@shutterxpose.com
