The Historical, Vintage & Classic Cars Museum is organizing a parade on Wednesday, October 10th 2012. The parade will start at 4:00pm from Kuwait Towers and will head towards the museum in Shuwaikh. I’m quite doubtful about my visit this time too, cos of my long working hours.
This definetly would be fun and hope the weather plays perfect. So if you are a photographer take out your camera and gears and follow the basic steps.
- Reach the venue well ahead of time
- A wide angle or a standard short to medium telephoto lens (Prime lens would be perfect)
- Carry a polarizer to avoid bright reflection from metal car body.
- Shoot at unusal angle
- Capture specific details (Hood ornaments, wheels , engines, etc.)

Brief Summary of the Contest
The contest was open to all residents of Kuwait. The contestant had to upload their best image based on the theme of the contest and invite their friends and folks to vote for their image. The Photo contest had a considerable good response. We received a total of 37 entries and only 25 entries were qualified and moderated based on the theme, the contest was held for a 1 month period (19th August – 19th September, 2012). The contest received a total of 3000+ votes from more than 10 countries including Kuwait. As per the rules Top 5 entries with maximum votes were selected to qualify for the Judges technical evaluation round, the last 48 hrs of the contest was quite interesting with votes swinging in favour of few participants, finally there were Ties in 3 spots which ultimately gave 8 entrants to enter the evaluation round.
The Jury (3 judge panel) members had a daunting task ahead, each jury member had to evaluate the image based on the following technical criteria :
- Does the Image suit the Theme of the contest
- Composition and
- Overall impact (Lighting, Sharpness and creativity)
The total point system was on a scale of 10, at the end of the evaluation round the total aggregate point from all the judges against each image were calculated and the final 3 winners were selected.
The 3 panel Jury members are Professional photographer who have excelled in the field of photography with couple of awards under their name. A brief summary of their portfolio would be added in my coming post soon.
Congratulation to all the participants. Taking part in such photography contest is just a stepping stone to your long cherished dream to be recognised as a photographer.

Lee Llamas is one of the most successful and popular wedding photographer in the Philippines. In spite of his popularity, Lee Llamas is quite a modest and sincere person, an ardent listener a serious humorist. To his “Golden Boy” reputation Lee Llamas created wonders at his 1st Kuwait Leg- My Style Wedding Photography workshop, which was held at the Safir Hotel- Fintas on the 15th & 16th June 2012.
Day 1 started with the formal introduction of Lee Lamas, his photography works, his approach and workflow while shooting models and his style of creating magic with dynamic dimension when it comes to wedding photography. The day continued with photo shoots covering every aspect of wedding photography including the E Session, Lighting details and Outdoor shoots. Lee Llamas took personal attention in composing couple of bridal shoots, attendees were given first-hand information on such composition and advised to be creative. He also took personal interests to observe each attendees (photographers) shot and end up either advising or complimenting the photo. To give a real feel of the wedding, 2 expensive bridal gowns were arranged along with 4 couple models (2 couples for Pre-Nuptial ceremony & 2 couples for Wedding ceremony), make-up as well as floral artist. The models were pampered with glory by the photographers who were trying to capture them with their best camera, available lens, light and creative angles.
Mutla Ridge is the highest point in Kuwait, even though it’s almost around 500 feet in elevation. It is located just north and west of Kuwait city and is part of Al Jahra Governorate. The Ridge has an historical reference during the 1991 war, when Kuwait was invaded by Iraq. In February 1991, during operation Desert Storm, U.S. forces managed to capture Mutla Ridge in a lopsided battle and cut off Iraqi forces fleeing to Iraq. A massive convoy of Iraqi vehicle was trapped on the highway leading to Mutla Ridge and was devastated by coalition aircraft, as well as by U.S. ground forces. The scene of the destruction became known as the “Highway of Death.” (historical reference as documented by award winning editor Spencer C. Tucker in his book “The Encyclopedia of Middle East Wars”)
ShutterXpose members had an early Friday morning (08th June,2012) trip to explore Mutla Ridge. The team was well in time for Sunrise (04:48 am), the weather was not good for photography as there was still a layer of dust in the air, but it wasn’t quite bad either. Generally any drastic change in wind current is good enough to blow enough sand in the desert and make the visibility bad. Mutla Ridge definitely gave us a breathtaking relief from the usual crowd and concrete jungles, the utter silence and freshness in the air, ripple sand pattern along with the mild sand blowing on to our face welcomed us in its rather unusual pleasant way.

A couple of days back I mentioned about Kuwait 1st Annual Photowalk, this event turned out to be a roaring success with more than 80 photographers with different skill level of photography participating during the entire day to take their passion to a new height. Photowalks are common event at most places in the world, but for Kuwait this was a total new concept. A “Photowalk” is intended to be more slow paced learning with actual on the spot results as you take photos using the camera settings and composition techniques you have just learned from your peers and Professional Photographers walking along with you. It also serves as a larger networking activity for those professionals looking to meet up with other like minded people.
The idea for the event started about 2 weeks ago as a plan to bring together Photographers from the past 6 months sporting events, and the free seminars by Kyle Stanley and his team have put on at the various Photo club shoots. Photowalk started at the Kuwait Science center parking lot at 5:00 am. Photographers started gathering and receiving their badges according to their skill level. Black for Professionals, Yellow for Creative artists, and Green for enthusiast. The course started out with a meet and greet where by each member introduced themselves and their background in Photography. Basics of Photography where gone over quickly and guidance to the daily events. All the members proceeded to walk down towards the Hard Rock Cafe, stopping along the way to photograph Motorcycle model, landscape shots of the ocean, and impromptu street shots of the Fisherman along the way. Once at The Hard Rock, Johnny Dao gave an open course on Landscape Photography and the use of filters and their adapters. The next meeting point was at the Green Island for Live modeling shoots. Though there was no Ramp walk, the thrill was no less. Audrea Gregga Professional photographer and Freelance makeup artist gave the members the tips and insight on shooting live models. The bright dusty weather provided the lights and the cameras kept rolling with almost all photographers shooting the friendly models – Gabrijela Lovrich, Sandra, MUA Renzy Lim Aurelas & Hala
The event finally concluded in the evening capturing the sunset at the Kuwait Tower. This Photowalk created a lot of enthusiasm among photographers in a hope to have more such events in the future. Over the last 2 days since the event took place, 3 new Facebook pages has been added to serve the photography community here in Kuwait. Topics covered during the events where White Balance, Aperture, Shutter Speed, and Creative composition along with the landscape, detail, and model shooting.
The event was sponsored by Kuwait UPTO DATE, Al Zoba company & Al Ghunaim Photography.

Inspired by the first Earth Hour in Sydney, in 2008 a group of engineering students at Kuwait University aspired to spread awareness about global warming and to take action on climate change. Living in an oil-producing country is a great economic privilege, however, it raises important concerns about the amounts of carbon emissions. The Kuwaiti Team for Global Warming was established to encourage the people of Kuwait to embrace environmental change in order to balance the effects of oil production. Their aim was to organise Earth Hour in Kuwait and to motivate the people of Kuwait to engage in this global contribution of reducing carbon emissions.
In 2009, the team introduced the idea of Earth Hour to the public by organising an event in a public area overlying Kuwait Towers. The significance of reducing electricity consumption for only an hour was explained by the team members to authorised individuals of the main landmarks of Kuwait – these include Kuwait Towers, Liberation Tower, The Scientific Center as well as over twenty-six malls, embassies, hotels, companies and professional associations. Several non-profit organisations and societies participated in the event to educate people about other environmental aspects and the importance of volunteer work. The team’s work is not only exclusive to organising Earth Hour, they also believe in the concept of reducing carbon emissions beyond the hour. The team contributes towards educating the youth about global warming and climate change by giving lectures and seminars at schools and universities. Furthermore, the members of the team engage in various environmental exhibitions and conferences as well as beach clean-ups. The Kuwaiti Team for Global Warming has also inspired organisations to adopt the idea of Earth Hour and has supported its application in the State of Kuwait during Environmental Day, which took place on February 27th 2012, naming it the Environmental Hour.
