ShutterXpose concluded its season 3 of Digital Photography 101 workshop on a high note. The workshop was held at the recently upgraded MAS Boardroom at the IBIS Hotel with the state of art audio/video system on Friday 29th April 2016. The workshop was sponsored by Tamron Lens and Naser Mohamed Al-Sayer Communications Communication, the official dealer of Tamron, Canon, Steiner and Vanguard products in the State of Kuwait.

Mr. Salman Al-Basha, the Product Manager representing our sponsor introduced the participants about the company and Tamron lenses in particular. Tamron lenses have won many awards among the prestigious EISA awards. Tamron Kuwait offers 5 years International Warranty on all it’s lenses at a very competitive price. Tamron produces Di and Di II lens for both full frame and crop sensor camera bodies and are available for most of the popular camera mounts. ShutterXpose has been conducting workshops from it’s inception in 2011, they are generally known for their high quality course contents and detailed explanations. The participants were dynamic personalities representing multiple nations working in different background yet with a common passion to pursue Photography as their hobby. The workshop also witnessed few students who wished to continue their hobby along with their professional career in the future. The workshop was targeted towards novice, beginners and amateur to provide them not only with basics but enough of knowledge to carry on to the intermediate level.

ShutterXpose has been providing their members time and again opportunities to exhibit their passion, the group had the best of time capturing a bird eye view at one of the tallest building in Kuwait. The photo session was a memorable for all and a learning curve for some of the new members to capture aerial cityscape view.

We had the Tamron lens for a day and the following are our quick general review.

The new Tamron SP 15-30MM F/2.8 Di VC USD is a full-frame professional qualified lens both in feel and optics, it offers ultrasonic focus motor for quiet AF operation. Tamron claims to have a 4-stop built in image stabilization (VC) which helps to shoot hand-held in low light condition. The lens is remarkably heavy at 1.1 kg with a total of 18 lens elements in 13 groups, it may not be well suited for smaller APS-C body due to the overall bulkiness. The lens barrel though are made of plastic, it’s of high standard to offer better durability and moisture resistance. This lens is ideally suited for Architectural, Landscape and Astrophotography.

Tamron Kuwait had provided us with a Canon mount lens, which was put to test by our good team mates Dr. Vinod Kumar and Muttaz Saleh on their Canon EOS 5D Mark II and EOS 5D Mark III respectively.

This new lens is equipped with Vibration Compensation (VC) and speedy Ultrasonic Silent Drive (USD) which were both missing in the 200-500 mm model as well being shorter at the focal length. It also features the latest eBAND and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coating to help suppress flare and ghosting to achieve high class image quality.

The early marketing images captured by a blogger and available on the Tamron website are quite sharp and impressive. It however is quite early to conclude how the lens will perform in extreme conditions and low light. Though the lens is designed for Full Frame, it can be used with APS-C format DSLR cameras.

The lens was recently showcased at the French photo show, le Salon de la photo. No official date for worldwide shipping is announced as yet, the lens will be available for Nikon, Canon and Sony mounts.
